Introduction

Welcome to Mailazine. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our email reading application.

How the App Works

Mailazine is an email client for iOS that connects to your email account (such as Gmail, Outlook, or Yahoo) and displays your emails in a magazine-style reading format. You can read emails, mark them as read, and delete them from within the app.

All email data stays on your device. Mailazine processes and stores your email content, attachments, metadata, and account credentials entirely on your device in a local database. No personal data or email content is ever transmitted to our servers or shared with any third party.

Information That Stays on Your Device

The following information is accessed and stored only on your device in a local database and is never transmitted to our servers or any third party:

  • Email Account Credentials: Authentication tokens and account settings necessary to connect to your email provider
  • Email Content: Email messages, attachments, headers, and metadata used to display your emails in the app. This data is cached in a local database on your device and persists until you sign out of your account or delete the app.
  • Device Information: Basic device information used locally for compatibility purposes

All communication between the app and your email provider (such as Gmail) occurs over encrypted HTTPS/TLS connections directly from your device to the provider's servers. Your email data is never routed through our servers.

Information We Collect

The following information is sent from your device to third-party services we use for analytics and crash reporting:

  • Usage Analytics (via Statsig): Information about which app features are used, such as how often you open the app, view emails, or use specific features like mark-as-read or delete
  • Crash Reports (via Sentry): When the app crashes or encounters an error, diagnostic information is sent including stack traces, device model, operating system version, and app state at the time of the error
  • IP Address: Our analytics and crash reporting services receive your IP address as part of normal network communication. We do not use IP addresses to identify individual users, but they are collected by these services as part of their standard operation.

These analytics and crash reports do not contain any email content, email addresses, account credentials, or the substance of your communications.

How We Use Collected Data

We use analytics and crash reporting data solely to:

  • Understand which features are most useful to improve the app
  • Identify and fix bugs, crashes, and performance issues
  • Make informed decisions about future app development

We do not sell your data. We will never sell, rent, or trade any of your information — including analytics data — to third parties.

Google API Services Usage

When you connect a Gmail account, Mailazine requests the gmail.modify scope through the Google API. This permission allows the app to:

  • Read your email messages, attachments, and metadata
  • Mark emails as read or unread
  • Delete emails

All email data retrieved through the Google API is processed and stored entirely on your device in a local database and is never transmitted to our servers or any third party.

Mailazine's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Specifically:

  • Mailazine only uses Google user data to provide the email reading features you see in the app
  • Mailazine does not transfer Google user data to any third party, except as necessary to provide the app's functionality, with your consent, for security purposes, or to comply with applicable law
  • Mailazine does not use Google user data for advertising, marketing, or any purpose unrelated to the app's core email reading functionality
  • Mailazine does not use Google user data for surveillance, credit-worthiness determinations, or lending decisions
  • Mailazine does not transfer Google user data to data brokers, information resellers, or any advertising platform
  • No human at Mailazine or High Line Labs can read your email content or access your Google account data

Data Security

Your email data is stored in a local database on your device, protected by your device's built-in security features including device encryption and biometric authentication. Authentication tokens are stored securely in your device's keychain.

All network communications — including email fetching from your email provider and analytics/crash report transmission — are encrypted using HTTPS/TLS.

Data Retention

Email data is stored in a local database on your device. You can remove this data by signing out of your email account within the app or by deleting the app, which removes all locally stored email data and credentials from your device.

Analytics and crash reporting data is retained by Statsig and Sentry in accordance with their respective data retention policies and is used only for the purposes described in this policy.

Third-Party Services

Mailazine uses the following third-party services:

  • Email Providers (Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, and others): To fetch and manage your email. This integration operates entirely on your device — your email data is fetched directly from your email provider to your device and is not routed through our servers.
  • Statsig: For anonymous usage analytics. Statsig receives usage events and your IP address but does not receive any email content or account credentials.
  • Sentry: For crash reporting and error tracking. Sentry receives crash diagnostics and your IP address but does not receive any email content or account credentials.

Revoking Access

You can disconnect your email account from Mailazine at any time by signing out within the app, which removes your account credentials and cached email data from your device.

For Gmail accounts, you can also revoke Mailazine's access from your Google Account permissions page. If you revoke access through Google, Mailazine will no longer be able to sync new emails, but previously cached email data will remain on your device until you sign out within the app or delete the app.

International Users

Mailazine is available internationally. Your email data is stored locally on your device and is not transferred to our servers. However, analytics and crash reporting data (including your IP address) may be processed by Statsig and Sentry on servers located in the United States or other countries.

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland, our legal basis for collecting analytics and crash reporting data is our legitimate interest in improving the app and fixing errors. You have the right to:

  • Request access to the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction or deletion of your personal data
  • Object to or request restriction of processing of your personal data
  • Request portability of your personal data
  • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at privacy@mailazine.com.

Children's Privacy

Mailazine is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
